St. Michael the Archangel

March 2021 - August 2021

A shallow iconographic relief of St. Michael the Archangel in walnut. This piece was commissioned by a man on the police force, who claim St. Michael as their patron.

On St. Michael’s shield is the Latin phrase, "Christus vincit! Christus regnat! Christus imperat!", translated "Christ conquers! Christ reigns! Christ commands!" These are the opening words of the ancient hymn Laudes Regiae, supposedly sung upon at Charlemagne’s coronation, but most appropriately sung when celebrating the Solemnity of Christ the King.
